Frequently Asked Questions

Good marketing shouldn’t require a giant team, a giant budget, or a 60-page strategy deck no one ever looks at. Here are a few things you might want to know before we work together.

Who do you work with?

I primarily work with startups, small and mid-sized businesses, and nonprofits that need experienced marketing support but don’t necessarily need—or want—a large agency or full-time marketing department.

Some clients already have marketing people in place and need strategic leadership or extra horsepower. Others are building their marketing function from scratch. Both are welcome.

What kinds of marketing can you help with?

My work typically falls into a few areas:

  • Marketing strategy and planning

  • Positioning, messaging, and value propositions

  • Go-to-market and product launches

  • Content and campaign strategy

  • Customer research and sales enablement

  • Marketing audits and performance analysis

  • Fractional marketing leadership

If something requires specialized expertise, like advanced web development or graphic design, I can help manage the project while working with specialists.

How do I know what kind of marketing help I need?

You don't have to.

In fact, figuring that out is often the first part of the engagement. We’ll look at where the business is today, what you’re trying to accomplish, what’s already working, and what’s getting in the way.

From there, we can determine what marketing actually deserves your time and budget—and what doesn’t.

How do you measure if marketing is working?

It depends on the goal.

That could mean qualified leads, pipeline, revenue, conversions, customer acquisition, product adoption, engagement, registrations, donor activity, or another meaningful business outcome.

Do we need a big marketing budget?

No.

You need a budget that's appropriate for what you're trying to accomplish.

I'd rather help you focus a smaller budget on a few things that make sense than spread it across ten channels because someone told you that you “need to be everywhere.”

Do you execute marketing, or just create the strategy?

Both—but it depends on the engagement.

I'm comfortable moving between strategy and execution. I can develop the plan and then help bring it to life through messaging, content, campaigns, email, research, sales enablement, and other marketing programs.

For work that requires a dedicated specialist, I'll tell you. I don't believe in pretending one marketer is magically the world's best at everything.
